Open your Bible and read Luke 22:54-62 and John 21:15-19
“And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”
Luke 22:61 · ESVPeter swore he would die first. Hours later he was denying he even knew the man, to a servant girl, three times, while Jesus was close enough to turn and see him do it.
Imagine carrying that. The last look you got from him was across a courtyard while you were lying about him.
Then read the other passage. A charcoal fire on a beach, breakfast cooking, and three questions. Do you love me. One for each denial. No speech about what Peter cost him. No probation period. He hands him the work back.
Judas is in the same week and his story does not end tidy, and it would be dishonest to pretend it does. But look at what was offered to the man who failed publicly and stayed. That offer is the thing worth asking about.
