Day 23 of 60 · What He said He was

The Light Of The World

Open your Bible and read John 8:12-20

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12 · ESV

We hear light and think warmth. In this book it usually means exposure.

Light shows you the room. It shows the dust and the wiring and whatever you shoved behind the couch. Most of us prefer a dimmer setting, and we have gotten skilled at it. Curated version at work, another one for family, a third one online, and the real inventory somewhere none of them can see.

The offer here is not that he will overlook what is in the corners. It is that he will show you the whole thing and not leave.

That is a genuinely frightening offer, and there is no reason to pretend it is not. But think about the alternative you have been living with. Never fully seen, and therefore never actually sure you are wanted.

Do this today

Name one thing you keep in the dark. You do not have to tell another person yet.

An honest thing to say to God

“God, if you can see all of it, then see it. I am tired of managing the image.”
