Open your Bible and read Isaiah 64:1-9
“We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.”
Isaiah 64:6 · ESVAlmost everyone runs the same math. Put the good on one side, the bad on the other, and hope the good wins. Volunteer hours against the affair. Generosity against the temper.
Scripture calls that stack of good deeds a polluted garment. Dirty rags. And that lands like an insult, so let us be honest about what it does and does not mean.
It does not mean your kindness is worthless. Your kindness fed somebody. It mattered to them and it matters to God. What it means is that your kindness was never currency. It cannot buy standing with a holy God, any more than a beautiful painting can pay off a mortgage. Wrong category entirely.
So the offer on the table is a trade. Put the rags down, and receive a righteousness that is HIS, not yours. You are not being asked to earn anything. You are being asked to stop trying to.

List three things you have quietly counted as your credit with God, then read them back and ask if they are really currency.
