Open your Bible and read John 10:22-39

People ask him straight out to stop keeping them in suspense. Tell us plainly. He answers with six words, and they pick up rocks.

This is the moment that rules out the gentle misunderstanding theory. They tell him exactly why they are about to kill him. You, being a man, make yourself God. If he had been misread, this was the place to fix it. Any decent teacher would have.

He does not fix it. His reply quotes a psalm, and honest scholars still argue about precisely what he meant by that line. But he never denies the charge, and the crowd tries again to seize him.

Sit with the size of that. Either a first century Jewish man said the most blasphemous thing possible in his own culture and was wrong, or he was not wrong. Both options cost you something.
