Learning To Be Still

Open your Bible and read Psalm 46

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Psalm 46:10 · ESV

Most of us are terrified of quiet. The second things go silent, we reach for a screen. But God is not usually shouting over the noise we keep manufacturing. He speaks in a way that requires you to slow down and lean in, and stillness is how you do that.

Being still is not emptying your mind. It is settling your body and turning your attention fully toward Him. Your thoughts will wander in the first thirty seconds. That is normal. Just bring them back. Say His name and wait.

Some of the deepest things He does in a person happen in silence, where He is not asking you to do anything at all except be with Him.

You will not stumble into this by accident. Nobody can go after His presence for you. You have to choose the quiet on purpose.

Do this today

Set a timer for three minutes, put the phone in another room, and just be with God.

Say this out loud

“I can be still before God. He is my refuge and I have nothing to prove in His presence.”
