Give Like He Gave

Open your Bible and read 2 Corinthians 9:6-15

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

2 Corinthians 9:7 · ESV

Money tells the truth about a person faster than almost anything else. Look at where it goes and you will see what is actually trusted.

Read the verse carefully, because it protects you from two bad things. As he has decided in his heart rules out guilt and pressure and anybody working a crowd for an offering. Not reluctantly or under compulsion rules out giving because you felt cornered. God is not after your wallet. He is after your heart, and He wants a cheerful giver, not a squeezed one.

Generosity breaks something off you. Money makes a decent servant and a brutal master, and every time you give it away on purpose you remind it which one it is.

You give because He gave first, and He did not hold anything back. He gave His Son. Start where you actually are, but start.

Do this today

Decide on one amount, give it this week cheerfully, and do not tell anyone you did.

Say this out loud

“God loves a cheerful giver and I am one. My money is not my security, He is.”
