Open your Bible and read Proverbs 27:5-17
“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
Proverbs 27:17 · ESVIron on iron makes sparks and noise. That is the picture. Real friendship is not always comfortable, because the whole point is that it sharpens you.
This is not about cutting off everybody you knew before Christ. Some of those people are exactly who you were saved to reach. It is about access. Who gets to speak into your life? Who do you take advice from at midnight? Those seats should belong to people walking toward Jesus, not away from Him.
You need two or three who can ask you anything. Where are you really at. How is your time with Him. Is that still going on. Somebody who loves you enough to say the hard sentence and stay in the room afterward.
Those friendships do not fall out of the sky. Somebody has to ask first. Be the one who asks.
Do this today
Ask one believer to be someone who can ask you anything, and give them that permission today.
Say this out loud
“I choose friends who sharpen me and point me to Jesus, and I will be that kind of friend.”
