Open your Bible and read John 4:1-26
“Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?”
John 4:29 · ESVShe had every disqualification her world could stack on one person. Wrong ethnicity. Wrong gender to be spoken to alone. Five husbands behind her and a man now who was not one. She came for water at noon, which is when you come if you are avoiding the other women.
He asks her for a drink. He puts himself in her debt first, which is a small thing that changes everything about the conversation that follows.
Then he names her whole history without once making her feel dirty for it. And she is the first person in the entire book that he tells plainly, in so many words, who he is. Not a scholar. Not a priest. Her.
Whatever you think that says about him, notice it says nothing at all about her being respectable first.
