Open your Bible and read John 19:16-30
“When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, 'It is finished,' and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”
John 19:30 · ESVThree words. In the language John wrote in, it was one word, and it was the word merchants stamped across a bill when the balance hit zero. Paid in full. He did not say I am finished. He said IT is finished. Something was completed up there, and He announced it before He died, not after.
Think about what that rules out. It rules out the idea that Jesus started the work and you complete it with enough church attendance or enough remorse. There is nothing to finish. If the payment is complete, adding to it is not humility, it is insult.
This is the hinge of the whole Christian claim. Not do more. Done. Everything from here is a response to a finished thing rather than an attempt to secure it.
You do not have to accept it today. But be clear about what is actually being offered, so that whatever you decide, you decide about the real thing.
