Luke 24:5-6 · ESVEverything now turns on one morning. A crucified teacher is a tragedy. A crucified teacher who walks out of a tomb is something else.
Start with what is odd about the story. Women found it first. In that culture a woman's testimony carried almost no legal weight, so if you were fabricating a story to convince first century skeptics, these are the last witnesses you would invent. You would put respected men there. The writers did not, and the simplest reason is that it is what happened.
Be fair about the limits though. An empty tomb by itself proves absence, not resurrection. A missing body has other explanations, and we will look at them honestly this week rather than pretend they do not exist.
But notice the disciples' first reaction in the text. They did not believe the women. These were not people primed to see a miracle. They thought it was nonsense.
