Day 51 of 60 · What He offers

The Honest Cost

Open your Bible and read Luke 14:25-33

“For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?”

Luke 14:28 · ESV

You should have the whole picture, not the brochure. Jesus certainly gave it. Crowds were following Him and He turned around and told them to sit down and count what it would take before signing on.

So here is the honest cost. Some friendships will cool. Some family conversations will get uncomfortable. Habits you enjoy will start to bother you from the inside. You will be lumped in with Christians who embarrass you, sometimes fairly. And the deepest part is that your life stops being purely yours to direct. That is not fine print, it is the actual deal.

Anyone who tells you following Jesus makes life easier is selling something He never sold. What He claims is that it is worth it. Not painless. Worth it.

Count it now, clearly, while you are still deciding. Nobody wants you signing up for something you were not told about.

Do this today

Write down the one thing you suspect this would cost you, and be specific about it.

An honest thing to say to God

“God, I want to see the whole cost before I decide anything. Do not let me pretend it is smaller than it is.”
