Day 9 of 60 · The secret place

Shut The Door

Open your Bible and read Matthew 6:5-13

“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Matthew 6:6 · ESV

Jesus gave surprisingly practical instructions about prayer. Find a room. Shut the door. Talk to your Father. The shut door matters. It removes the audience. When nobody can hear you, you stop performing, and what comes out is honest. God is not impressed by beautiful sentences. He is moved by a heart that came looking for Him.

You do not need a script to start. Tell Him what you are grateful for. Tell Him what He means to you. Tell Him you love Him even if the words feel awkward in your mouth the first few times. Everyone feels awkward at the beginning.

And notice the promise. Your Father who sees in secret will reward you. He is watching the private moments nobody else knows about, and He responds to them.

Ten honest minutes behind a closed door will change your week.

Do this today

Shut a door today and talk to God out loud for five minutes with no phone in the room.

Say this out loud

“My Father sees me in secret. When I seek Him privately, He meets me there.”
